Boil order issued in downtown Weirton

WEIRTON - Residents and businesses in a portion of the city are under a boil order following a water line break in the city Tuesday.

Officials with the Weirton Area Water Board announced the boil order is in effect for Wood Street, Grant Street and the 200 and 300 blocks of Marland Heights Road.

The break was along Marland Heights Road, and crews made the necessary repairs to the line, flushing and refilling the system in the affected area as a result.

Water samples must be tested before the water is allowed to be used, officials said, so those living or working in the affected areas are asked to boil all water being used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, bathing and food preparation.

Animal shelter offers low-cost adoptions

NEW MANCHESTER - The Hancock County Animal Shelter is offering low-cost adoptions for cats and dogs through the end of the month.

Discounted adoption fees are $25 for adult cats (1 year old or older), $50 for adult dogs and $50 for kittens.

"This is always a challenging time of year for any animal shelter," said shelter Director Lorrie Byo. "We are at the height of kitten season again, and we are experiencing increased animal intakes for dogs as well."

The discounted adoptions will be offered on site, 715 Gas Valley Road, and at the Robinson Township PetSmart store throughout July.

All adoptions are subject to the standard adoption process, which includes, but may not be limited to, an adoption screening and a veterinary reference. The animal shelter retains the right to refuse any adoption at its sole discretion.

Shelter hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sundays by appointment. For information, call (304) 387-4102.
