Manhunt continues for escaped prisoner

STEUBENVILLE - A manhunt will continue today for a prisoner who walked away from a work detail at Friendship Park on Tuesday.

Benjamin M. Delguzzi, 27, of Steubenville was serving a 180-day sentence out of Steubenville Municipal Court for assault. Delguzzi was involved in a domestic incident in May in the city. Delguzzi got into physical confrontation with a sheriff's deputy.

Delguzzi initially was charged with assault on a police officer, a felony, but it was reduced to assault in municipal court.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said a Cadiz officer fired a Taser at Delguzzi on Wednesday afternoon near Cadiz but Delguzzi was able to escape. Delguzzi later broke into a home outside Cadiz and stole clothing, Abdalla said.

The sheriff said the Ohio State Highway Patrol used an airplane and STAT MedEvac provided a helicopter for the search. Numerous police agencies also participated.

"Hopefully he will turn himself in," Abdalla said.

Man arrested in socks and underwear

STEUBENVILLE - City Police responding to a disturbance call Wednesday around noon found a man intoxicated, breaking a clay flower pot dressed only in his socks and underwear.

Officers were called about a man taking off his clothes and yelling in the 4000 block of Sunset Boulevard. An officer found the man at the rear of a home, near a pickup truck with its door open, police reported. The man was breaking the flower pot and was taken into custody.

The officer said the man gave a false name but the officer found a union card nearby with the man's correct name.

Zane A. Walker, 32, of 1209 Gilchrist St., Brilliant, was charged with intoxication, falsification and criminal mischief. He also was served outstanding warrants out of municipal court for obstructing official business and felony vandalism.

Man sentenced to jail for violation

STEUBENVILLE - Zachary P. Robinson, 22, of Mingo Junction was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail on Wednesday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge David Henderson after Robinson admitted to a probation violation.

Robinson pleaded guilty to burglary and theft in July 2010 and was allowed to enter drug court. He was charged with possession of cocaine in June 2011 and sentenced to six months in the Eastern Ohio Correction Center and placed on two years of probation.

Robinson admitted to recently using heroin, Xanax and sleeping pills. He will be on probation for a year. He faces up to 20 months in prison if he again violates probation.

Commission Chairperson Delores Wiggins said the three-member commission recently met with the acting superintendents from the city water department and wastewater department.

"The job descriptions we have requested from each city department were past due and most of them haven't been upgraded since the 1980s. We will meet with additional department heads in the coming weeks to review all job descriptions," Wiggins said.
