State Route 150 bridge work to start

RAYLAND - State Route 150 will be restricted beginning next week between Rayland and Dillonvale for a bridge replacement project, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported.

The bridge is located over Short Creek about three miles west of state Route 7 between Dillonvale and Rayland.

Two-way traffic will be maintained in one, 10-foot lane with temporary traffic signals, ODOT reported.

ODOT's contractor for the $1.4 million project is Shelly and Sands of Zanesville The project has an interim completion date, requiring all lanes be open to traffic by mid-December, according to ODOT. However, some work will remain on the project through June 2014.

State Route 519 to be closed

NEW ATHENS - State Route 519 will be closed to traffic Monday for a bridge replacement project in Athens Township, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported.

The bridge is located west of New Athens over Busby Road (township Road 264). Beginning at the intersection of state Route 519 and U.S. Route 22, traffic will be detoured east on U.S. Route 22 to U.S. Route 250 east to state Route 9 in Cadiz, then south on state Route 9 back to state Route 519, and reverse.

ODOT estimated the road to be closed 21 days.

ODOT's contractor for the $379,296 project is Ohio-West Virginia Excavating of Powhatan Point.

Park and ride work delayed

STEUBENVILLE - The Ohio Department of Transportation reported the start of construction has been delayed on two park and ride lots north of Steubenville at the intersection of state Routes 213 and 7.

The start date has been postponed until Aug. 19 due to material delays, ODOT reported.

One existing park and ride lot will be expanded to include a total of 46 spaces, and a new lot will be constructed across the street in the same general area that will hold approximately 30 vehicles, ODOT reported.

ODOT's contractor, Shelly and Sands of Zanesville, will begin work on the new lot first to minimize disruptions for patrons, according to ODOT.

All work on this $458,454 project is expected to be completed by mid-November.

County engineer releases schedule

STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Engineer James Branagan released the work schedule for next week for the highway department.

Chip seal - Monroeville-Irondale Road (county Road 55); Timothy Ridge Road (county Road 58); Wolf Run Road (county Road 75); and Brush Creek Township roads.

Pavement repair - Warren Ridge-Smithfield-Rayland Road (county Road 15).

Road closings will be announced.

Airport authority to hold special session

WINTERSVILLE - The Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority trustees will meet in special session at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the airpark to discuss and act on wind damage remediation issues as well as a grant application for snow removal equipment.

The meeting will be held in the conference room at the terminal.

Trustees to meet on aggregation

BRILLIANT - The Wells Township trustees will hold another public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the township office at 409 Prospect St. regarding the electrical aggregation.

The meeting will be held before the regular trustees' meeting.

W.Va. Rail Authority sets session

WEIRTON - The West Virginia State Rail Authority is looking for public input on a statewide rail plan for freight and passenger services.

The group will host an informational session from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Millsop Community Center to discuss the plan, seen as an important first step in charting a direction for freight and passenger rail service over the next 20-30 years.

A formal presentation is slated for 6 p.m.
