Nogay playing well

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Weirton Madonna graduate and West Virginia University senior Max Nogay is having a fine season with the New Bedford Bay Sox in the North East Colonial Baseball League.

He is batting .277 with 10 RBIs, 11 runs scored, seven doubles and a home run from his catchers position. His best game to date was his five-RBI performance Saturday in an 11-5 win. He doubled and belted a three-run homer.

WBA to hold registration

WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Baseball Association will hold sign-ups for fall baseball on at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the ball field shelter. Pinto, Mustang, Bronco and Pony-age players (as of April 30, 2014) are eligible. Cost is $35.

Practices begin for Panthers

RAYLAND - Buckeye Local golf tryouts will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 1 at Bec-wood Golf Course. All high school students are welcome.

Varsity volleyball tryouts will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Aug. 5 at the high school. Junior high volleyball practice will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at the high school from 9-11.

All athletes must have a valid physical and have been drug tested in order to try out.

Junior high football players will be fitted for helmets at 10 a.m. on July 31 at the east end of the high school. All players are asked to bring a lock for their locker.

Baseball camp to be held

WHEELING - A pitchers and catchers camp will be held Aug. 3-4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the I-470 Complex. The cost is $40 for one day or $60 for both. It is open for players ages 8-18.

Players will be grouped according to age, physical maturity and overall ability. The camp, run by Justin and Terry Edwards, is scheduled to have Wahsington Wild Things pitching coach Gary Lee, along with Justin Hall and Noah Mull.

Road Runners go 2-3

POWELL, Ohio - The Road Runners Elite U18 went 2-3 in the GAPSS college showcase tournament over the weekend. Paige Geanangel was 2-1 as a pitcher filling in. She fanned 13 in 12 innings and finished with a 2.25 ERA. She also hit .417 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Shayna Mirabella his .250 with a double, triple, three RBIs and five runs scored. Micca Mirabella is batting .287 with 12 RBIs, three doubles, two triples, six steals and 17 runs scored.

Madeline Gulan is hitting .276 with four doubles, two triples, a homer, 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
