'Retirement Under Construction' set

The Carriage Inn of Steubenville will host a free workshop entitled "Retirement Under Construction," a comprehensive plan for retirement.

"There is no 'typical' retirement, and there are many issues to consider other than financial," notes a news release.

The workshop with light refreshments begins at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10. Questions can be directed to Nancy at (740) 310-7295.

Community corn roast is Sunday

Brush Creek Township Trustees will host a community corn roast for Brush Creek residents on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brush Creek Senior Center.

Attendees should call (330) 679-2216 for reservations. Hot dogs, corn, drinks and snacks will be provided.

The event is sponsored by the Brush Creek Township 2013 Recreation Grant, DeNoon Lumber Co., Sterling Mining Co. and Brush Creek 50+ Club.

St. Paul's having luncheon Sunday

St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 717 Adams St., Steubenville, will host its monthly luncheon on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The brunch/luncheon will feature brunch foods, including made-to-order omelets, breakfast casseroles and frittatas as well as soup, sandwiches and desserts.

The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children age 12 and under.

Jonathan White to be in concert

Bergholz Faith Community Church is inviting the public to enjoy the music ministry of Canton native Jonathan White during the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

White has appeared at the Grand Ole Opry and on the Gaither Homecoming concerts. He also has had several songs on the gospel radio top 10.

A free will offering will be taken.

The church is located at 1500 state Route 524, Bergholz.

Sunrise Seniors off to 'Lion King'

The Sunrise Seniors of Toronto met Aug. 23 with President Susan Kulstad presiding and welcoming guests Kenny Mossor, Lucy and Joe Abbott, and Sandy and Jack Lesnick.

Chaplin Glenn Smith gave the blessing for dinner provided by the September kitchen committee of Bill and Susan Kulstad, Henry Portacarrero, Janet Morrow, Rusty, Kitty and Patty Roth, Tracey Wade, Diane Hooper and covered dishes provided by the membership.

The October kitchen committee will be Ray and Karen Horne, Lois Baker, Madge DeJulio, Marge Kane, and Darlene Carter.

Joyce Gribben reminded the members about the trip to see the "Lion King" in Pittsburgh on Sept. 17. The bus will leave the Cornerstone Church parking lot at 4:30 p.m. Dinner, which is not included in the ticket, will be at the Golden Corral before the show.

John Bodrog discussed the trip to Washington, D.C., planned for May 2-5. Twenty-seven from the club have signed up so far. There will be three payments spread over January through March. For information, contact Bodrog at (740) 537-1611.

The nominating committee of Wade Steele, Kathy and Joe McBride and Susan Conaway was formed to select a slate of officers for the late October meeting.

The 50/50 winners were Jim Wilson and Lucy Timko. Door prize winners were Mary Lou Deku and Donna Twyford. Sands of Time at Country Friends

Country Friends will host the Sands of Time band on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

Country Friends has events every Monday, Friday and Saturday at the hall. The doors open at 6 p.m. each Saturday, and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

On Monday and Friday nights, the doors open at 4 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. Participants can bring a covered dish if they desire for the meal that begins at 5 p.m.

'First Thursday' dance today

The Greater Weirton Senior Center will hold its "First Thursday" dance today at the center located on Main Street, Weirton.

The doors open at 5 p.m., and the Sands of Time will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The cost is $5.

The "King and Queen" card party will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available for $8.
