Church to hold gospel event

WELLSBURG - Wellsburg Church of Christ at 92 Rose Cottage Lane, formerly Sunset Avenue, will hold a gospel meeting, with guest speaker Steve Wallace, Sunday through Friday.

The program will include services at 10 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday and at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will be followed by a men's training class from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 14.

Chamber plans Make a Difference Day

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Chamber of Commerce will make plans for its annual observance of Make a Difference Day at its Sept. 17 meeting at noon at Vito's II.

The chamber has named fighting child poverty as a goal for this year. Civic groups interested in participating are encouraged to attend.

Crafts, quilts part of fall festival

COLLIERS - Old and new quilts will be displayed and an assortment of crafts and food will be sold during Olde St. John's Episcopal Church's Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14.

The menu will include sweet sausage sandwiches, cabbage and noodles, hot dogs, taco in a bag, apple cake and other baked goods. There also will be used fall decorations and books for sale.

Quilts of various ages, sizes and colors will be displayed over the church's pews.

The event is a major fundraiser for the church, which was founded in 1793.

The current church building, near the intersection of Eldersville and St. John's roads, was built in 1849 and includes the original cherry wood floor and box pews.

Brooke library to show films

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will have free screenings of "The Great Gatsby" and "Epic" next week on the large screen in its Elmer Vincent Meeting Room.

Based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Great Gatsby," rated PG-13, will be shown at 1 p.m Thursday.

Based loosely on William Joyce's children's book, "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs," "Epic," rated PG, will be shown at 11 a.m. Sept. 14.

Town yard sale set for Bethany

BETHANY - A town-wide yard sale will be held Sept. 14 in Bethany and include an indoor yard sale in the basement of Bethany Memorial Church, with proceeds going to a heating and cooling system for the church.

The GFWC WV Bethany Woman's Club also will be selling food there.

There also will be an antique car display on Main and Ross streets that day.
