STEUBENVILLE - The final city manager candidate has turned down the offer from City Council.

Gerald C. Smith informed 3rd Ward councilman Greg Metcalf at approximately 11:45 a.m. today that he has elected to accept a city manager position in Junction City, Kan.

Smith was the final candidate of 34 applicants to be considered for the city manager's position left vacant with Cathy Davison's resignation in May.

Metcalf said he was disappointed but announced the council will readvertise for applications, setting an Oct. 11 deadline.

"We had some very good candidates in this first round, and we anticipate seeing good candidates as we continue pursuing a new city manager," Metcalf said.
