New ministry program detailed

Beginning Wednesday, and continuing on the fourth Wednesday of each month, the Steubenville Church of the Nazarene located at 511 Woodlawn Road will be in a new "compassionate ministry program," according to its pastor, the Rev. Ron Miller.

"We will be providing packets to needy families containing some items that cannot be purchased with food stamps," Miller said. "While I realize we cannot supply every need, we would like to help as much as we are able," Miller added.

Registration will begin at 4 p.m., and packets will be provided until 5:30 p.m. in the basement of the church, the entrance off the parking lot. Proper identification is required.

Tiltonsville church hosting fundraiser

Tiltonsville United Methodist Church, 106 Grandview Ave., is hosting a Fall Harvest Craft Sale and Chinese auction on Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Vendors will be selling crafts, fall and holiday decor, jewelry and beauty products. There will be food available. Vendors interested in reserving a table can call (740) 859-2280, send an e-mail to or visit the Facebook page.

The cost for a table rental is $10.

Free concert Sunday at Port Homer

Port Homer Community Church will present a free concert by the Cochran family singers on Sunday beginning at 6 p.m.

The church is located on county Road 68 in Toronto.

Fall harvest weekend approaches

The Tri-State Free Methodist Campground, serving 14 Free Methodist churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, will host its fourth-annual fall harvest weekend event Sept. 27-29 at the campground located at 1027 Anderson Blvd., East Liverpool.

The Rev. Doug Rabe of Monacrest Free Methodist Church of Monanca, Pa., will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.

A cookout and covered-dish picnic at 2 p.m. Sept 28 will include the third-annual crock pot cook-off at the camp's pavilion. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded to the entries receiving the most votes.

A pumpkin-carving contest and children's games will immediately follow the picnic. Parents should bring pumpkins and carving tools and supervise. There also will be a corn hole contest, volleyball and basketball. The family movie "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" will be shown at 4 p.m.

A bonfire will follow the 7 p.m. Sept. 28 service, weather permitting. Those attending should bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Those staying on the grounds are invited to attend one of three local Free Methodist Churches for Sept. 29 services.

'Family' theme of gospel meetings

Weirton Heights Church of Christ will hold gospel meetings Oct. 6-10 with the theme "Family" at the church located at 3169 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton.

Frank Higginbotham is the guest speaker.

Meetings are as follows: 9:30 a.m. Oct. 6, Romans 12; 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6, "The Family: God's Plan"; 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6, "Mothers"; 7 p.m. Oct. 7, "Fathers"; 7 p.m. Oct. 8, "Children"; 7 p.m. Oct. 9, "Blessings of Being a Christian Parent"; and 7 p.m. Oct. 10, "Having a Successful Home."

Fall fest today at Weirton church

Marland Heights Community Church, Marland Heights Preschool and Cup of Life Ministries are hosting the annual fall fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the church's ball field located at 3900 Bright Way, Weirton.

In the case of inclement weather, the festival will be held in the church.

The free event will include food, children's game, face-painting and puppets.

Vendors include Avon, Tastefully Simple, 31, Dove Chocolates, Origami Owl, Silpada Designs jewelry and crafts including jewelry, cell phone cases, blankets and scarves.

A contest is being held to name the ball field. Those wanting to enter can like the church's Facebook page by searching "Marland Heights Community Church" and suggesting a name on the church's Facebook wall. The winner will be announced at the fall fest.

Songsters to perform at Bell Chapel

Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 3419 state Route 213, Steubenville, will host a concert by the Songsters on Sept. 29, beginning at 7 p.m.

A free will offering will be taken.

The trio, who are back from the Romania 20 Concert Tour, will be sharing the "good news" in song, according to church promotional literature.

New Somerset church plans event

In honor of its 101st Homecoming celebration, New Somerset Christian Church located at 74 Ridgeland Drive, Toronto, will host Zack Shelton and 64 2 Grayson in concert on Oct. 6.

The program will begin at 2 p.m. with a dinner to follow. A love offering will be taken. For information, call (330) 383-0921.

Flu shots along Bookmobile routes

Mingo Pharmacy will give flu shots on Thursday and Friday at stops on the routes of the Bookmobile operated by the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.

The flu shots are $15 and free to Medicare and Ohio Medicaid patients. The schedule is :

-- Noon to 1 p.m., Amsterdam, lot across from police department.

-- 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., Bergholz Post Office.
