November 3, 2013
The Herald-Star

WINTERSVILLE - For the third consecutive year "Festa del Vino" will be presented by the Italian-American Cultural Club from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 15 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville. A special highlight of the evening will be a silent auction of items provided by area businesses and individuals.

Well known local artist Dave Barnhouse has donated a print framed by Nelson's Fine Arts. The print, entitled "Serenity," depicts the Portland Head Light at twilight. Barnhouse noted it is the most photographed lighthouse in the world and that he was struck by "its beauty and majesty" when he and his wife, Marie, visited Maine.

Other works of art in the silent auction include a framed print of a scene in Charleston, S.C., donated by artist Jim Watson and two acrylic prints of fall and winter scenes from artist Don Fusco.

Auction chairman Jane Antonucci announced other gifts in the silent auction include a Myrtle Beach condo for a week, a Nike Covert driver, an autographed Pittsburgh Penguins jersey, overnight getaways, limousine service, gift certificates, professional services and assorted gift baskets.

In addition to the silent auction there will be an Italian (Chinese) auction featuring many items, a Pot of Gold drawing with three money prizes and numerous door prizes.

Iron City Distributing will provide the wine at four pouring stations and a champagne table. For those who are not wine drinkers there will be an added bonus station of new beers and hard ciders.

A new attraction this year will be "La Sala Fumatori," a smoking lounge that will feature specialty cigars by Antonio Magnone with a fully stocked cash bar.

Food selections from Piergallini Catering will include assorted cheese and antipasti, pork sliders, assorted mini calzones, stuffed banana peppers, parmesan wings, smoked salmon with lemons and capers, deep fried ravioli and chocolate covered strawberries. The dessert table will feature a variety of homemade biscotti baked by women of the IACC. There also will be a hot beverage bar with flavored coffees and liquers.

Musical entertainment throughout the evening will be provided by accordionist Rick Pastre and vocalists Joel Smith and Teresa Kropka. Club member John Balzano will serve as master of ceremonies.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the IACC scholarship fund, according to Theresa Metcalf, event chairman and scholarship chairman. Metcalf noted that as a result of last year's event the IACC awarded seven $1,000 scholarships to area high school graduates. The scholarships are named in memory of the late Rev. Edmondo Stabene.
