WEIRTON - Weirton native Kelli Olexia McCoy has been awarded two 2013 Davey Awards, presented by the International Academy of the Visual Arts for advertising excellence.

Work by McCoy and her advertising firm, LEX Multimedia Inc., located in Weirton, was selected from among nearly 4,000 entries from across the U.S. and around the world.

The Davey Awards honor creative work from the best small firms, agencies and companies worldwide, according to officials. McCoy's work, the television commercial "It's a New Day at Weirton Medical Center," garnered her two awards.

Through her firm, McCoy is the communications director at Weirton Medical Center, under the direction of R and V Associates. She says without a good story to tell, "It's a New Day" would never have become reality.

"To experience the unprecedented turnaround we are seeing here at WMC is quite remarkable. It invigorates the creative process and really gets all those involved excited about telling the story," said McCoy.

She attributes the honor to the leadership of R and V Associates, physicians and staff at Weirton Medical Center. McCoy added that she works with Grindley Productions in Wheeling, which edits and shoots the video contained in the spots.

McCoy and Weirton Medical Center recently were honored with a West Virginia Associated Press Award for print advertising as well.

In business since 2008, LEX Multimedia Inc. has created ad campaigns in the Ohio Valley, specifically for Weirton Medical Center, attorneys and retail businesses.

McCoy is a graduate of Weir High School and the West Virginia University Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism. An award-winning television news anchor, producer and reporter, McCoy interned at and later worked at WTOV-TV, until 2001. She then was hired as a reporter at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, before becoming the station's morning and noon newscast anchor. She is married to television executive Tim McCoy. The two have a son, Timothy Quinn, and a daughter, Shea Alexa.
