Dillonvale Rosebud Garden Club

scheduled to meet Wednesday

The installation of officers ceremony and a covered-dish dinner kicked off the October meeting of the Dillonvale Rosebud Garden Club.

Jane Elliott, president of the Mount Pleasant Garden Club, installed Caroline Williams, president; Kim Campbell, vice president; Linda Kovach, secretary; and Nina Cleaver, treasurer.

Roll call was taken by answering with a bird name that began with the member's initial. "Birds of a Feather" is the theme for the year, and all members received a program booklet. The monthly tip was information on the song sparrow read by Lori Abraham.

A display was made by all club members featuring fall nuts and leaves. Jodi Russell presented the program on "Cooking with Herbs," and all members received a handout with cooking suggestions and instructions on preparing herb bouquet bags.

Plans to decorated the village planters was discussed. Campbell will meet with the village officials and check the condition of all the planters and report back to the club. Decorating will take place at the end of November.

Members also decided to donate $15 at the November meeting to purchase supplies for the annual Shoebox Project. This year, boxes will be sent to the Franklin House in Steubenville and the Atwood house in Dillonvale. A workshop to assemble the boxes will be held at the Dillonvale Presbyterian Church on Nov. 23 at 10 a.m.

Nina Cleaver was nominated to enter the OGAC regional contest for Gardener of the Year.

The Christmas party will be held on Dec.11 at the Farm Restaurant in Adena. Members are asked to bring a $10 gift exchange item.

Williams will present a program on holiday container decorations and exhibit a winter fairy garden at Wednesday's meeting which will get under way at 7 p.m. at the Dillonvale Presbyterian Church.

Wells Township Christmas bazaar

on the calendar for Nov. 23

Wells Township's annual Christmas bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 at the Wells Township Community Senior Center located on Steuben Street in Brilliant.

Tables are free.

The event will include crafts, a bake sale and gifts.

Halloween costume winners

Winners in the Adena Lions Club's Halloween parade party that featured the judging of costumes have been announced.

The competition was open to children age 12 and under. Winners were:

Animal characters, ages 6 to 12: Mariana Matheson, first; Gracie Smith, second; and Annie Harlend, third.

Meridian Green association

members to host bake sale

Meridian Green of Wintersville's association members will host a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Hot dogs, beverages and chips will be sold.

There will be a drawing for a basket. Tickets are three for $1 or 50 cents a piece.

Mingo Senior Center announces

several upcoming trips

The Mingo Junction Senior Center, 663 Commercial St., is sponsoring a trip to Wheeling Downs on Wednesday.

The cost will be $20 with $25 in free play and $5 off the buffet. There will be a polka band playing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

A Cleveland Connection trip is planned Nov. 23. The cost is $48 and covers the bus and admission, A trip to the strip district is set for Dec. 11.

Trips for 2014 include Amish country, Columbus, Wildwood, N.J., and Nashville.

45th-annual Jewett craft show

to feature more than 80 crafters

The 45th-annual Jewett Craft Show sponsored by the Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the Jewett Fire Station, Jewett Wildcat Community Center.

There will be more than 80 crafters offering "many unique Christmas gifts" and "new prims."

There also will be various food stands.

Admission is $2, good for all buildings all day. There is free parking.
