TORONTO - The Toys 4 Toronto organization once again is collecting donations and toys so every city child wakes up to something under the tree Christmas morning.

Last year 115 families were presented with toys for children courtesy of the organization, and organizers are hoping this year will be just as bright, according to Lu Ellyn Dallas, co-organizer.

"That amounted to 250 kids, from newborns to 11 years old," said Dallas, adding this year the organization is including pre-teens up to age 13. "Each child receives a gift valued at between $25 to $30. Parents also choose various toys besides the big gifts. All batteries and wrapping paper are provided as well."

Dallas said area businesses have stepped up in the past to help, and she's hoping they will come through again this year. She added the need is out there.

"The need continues to grow, and we once again need the community's assistance," she continued, adding all donations are tax-deductable.

Volunteers also are needed as well, Dallas said, and names of children are being collected from Toronto City Schools, the Toronto Unit of the Salvation Army, the Toronto American Legion Post 86 and other service organizations, said Dallas.

"Drop off points for gently used toys include Rite Aid pharmacy, Dollar General and Riesbeck's grocery store," Dallas said.

"The delivery day (for toys) is Dec. 20 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Toronto American Legion Post 86, 415 Market St," Dallas continued. "We will be scheduling times for pickup of toys the first week of December, so (clients) should be expecting a call."

Monetary donations can be made out in the name of the Riverview United Methodist Church and earmarked for Toys 4 Toronto and sent to the Riverview United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 348, Toronto, OH 43964.

"We invite the community to stop in on Dec. 20 or the week of Dec. 17 (at the Legion hall) when we will be setting up Toys 4 Toronto," Dallas added.
