CADIZ - Tax increment financing ordinances were a subject of discussion at a recent Village Council meeting.

Three ordinances for the south end, east end and uptown were adopted to improve certain property located in the village, to declare property exempt from taxation and designate specific public infrastructure improvements.

The ordinances will require annual service payments in lieu of taxes, establishing a municipal public improvement tax increment equivalent fund. Vorys representative Chris Connelly worked with county Auditor Patrick Moore to identify which parcels need to have tax exemption applications filed.

Rich Milleson of the Community Improvement Corp. reported the Harrison County commissioners signed a lease with Ohio Gathering LLC for acreage near the county garage. The lease will expand the company's Cadiz facilities to include property near the airport.

"It is a good project for the village," Milleson said.

In other matters, the village fire department has gained four new members, as well as a new thermal camera. Firefighters were to take part in training exercises regarding safely handling meth labs.

The police department has obtained a new cruiser, but is waiting on equipment ordered for the vehicle, board members learned.

Two other cruisers are expected to be added to the department, but have been delayed due to miscommunication with the dealership, officials said.

The street department will purchase a new backhoe, to be paid for using equipment funds, officials said. The backhoe currently in use will be put to use permanently in the park.

Council approved a request by the Cadiz Business Association for use of uptown streets during the Christmas Parade, which is planned on Dec. 7.

The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5.
