Wellsburg OES has holiday party

The Wellsburg Order of Eastern Star No. 23 held its Christmas party recently with members of the Weirton Order of Eastern Star and the masons as guests.

Entertainment was provided by Power Surge, a singing group comprised of Diana Steele, Susan Boyce, Tammie Beagle, Jean Anne Mavromatis and Mary K. Strautmann who performed a concert of Christmas music. Janice Swain, worthy matron, and William Mushet, worthy patron, were in charge. Swain read a poem titled "My Christmas Wish." Refreshment were provided by the past matrons.

Richmond Legion meeting Thursday

The Richmond American Legion Post 740 Honored Seven will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, not at the usual 7 p.m. starting time, Legion Commander Dan Vojvodich announced.

Stone Street Station to perform

Country Friends will host the Stone Street Station band on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Old Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

Country Friends has events each Monday, Friday and Saturday at the hall. The doors open at 6 p.m. each Saturday, and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

On Monday and Friday nights, doors open at 4 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. Participants can bring a covered dish for the meal that begins at 5 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All procees go to charity.

AARP Chapter 3846 meets

AARP Chapter 3846 President Joann Bugin presided at the December meeting where Virginia Kucan gave the invocation and benediction and led in opening exercises.

Regina Truax announced the following upcoming tour:

-- March 29, doo-wop concert at the Wheeling Capitol Theater;

-- May 9-10, Lancaster, Ohio; and

-- May 23-27, New York.

Club donations will be made to the Salvation Army and Mary H. Weir Library, and members held a collection for the Community Bread Basket.

There are 111 members in good standing, it was announced, and 83 were in attendance at the meeting.

Al Daughtery and Iona McColloch won dinners, and Eva Fabianich won a quilt. Frank Fazio donated a Christmas-themed throw, which was won by Jean Irvin. John Moore won the club check, and Mary Orecchio and Jeannette Wetzel won the 50/25/25 drawing.

The following won door prizes: Carolyn Hill, Steve Rzepka, Joyce Rzepka, Regina Truax, Nancy Fridley, Marion Bowen, Pauline Stillwagon, Patty Beltrame, Chuck Bugin, Olivia Oklok, Frank Fazio, Cindy Gilbert, John Fields, Ernie Nicholas, John Moore, Dee Krinock, Honey Moore, Alma Wansack, Barbara Purks, Tony Beltrame, Dan Tournay, Nancy Tournay, Al Wudarski, Louise Hudock and Nancy Smurda.

Bugin wished those attending a happy holiday and noted there will be no January meeting.
