From staff reports , The Herald-Star

CADIZ - Chris Johnson, who escaped from the Harrison County Sheriff's Department last week, was apprehended by Weirton Police Friday evening.

Johnson was taken into custody near the Holiday Inn on Three Springs Drive.

Harrison County Sheriff Ron Myers said authorities in Harrison County had been pinging Johnson's cell phone in the area, which assisted in the search. Weirton Police officers had been staked out in an area when Johnson drove by in a vehicle.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and took Johnson into custody without incident.

Johnson was charged with DUI, obstructing justice and an additional fugitive from justice charge.

He is being held in the Northern Regional Jail while awaiting an extradition hearing.

He also faces probation violation and forgery charges.

Johnson was doing cleaning work in the sheriff's office when he escaped from the rear of the office through a gate that malfunctioned and did not close properly.
