Arrests made in pizza driver robbery

MINGO JUNCTION - Village Police arrested an adult and juvenile in connection with the Tuesday evening robbery of a pizza delivery driver.

The driver was called to deliver a pizza to a house on Edwards Street around 9 p.m. Police said the house was vacant and the driver was jumped and robbed of $8.

Tyler Gregg, 18, of 115 Grandview Ave., Mingo Junction, was taken to the county jail on a pending charge of robbery. A juvenile also was apprehended.

Police will go to the prosecutor's office today for formal charges.

Police Chief Steve Maguschak said the arrests were made through a thorough investigation by an officer.

Trooper finds loaded handgun

STEUBENVILLE - An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper found a loaded handgun during a traffic stop around 2:30 a.m. today at South Seventh and Market streets.

The trooper charged the driver, Stephanie N. Tate, 18, of 1106 Neville St., Follansbee, with operating a vehicle under the influence. A loaded .45-caliber handgun was found in the glove box.

The trooper said an 18-year-old man from the city was in the passenger seat. Both people in the vehicle denied ownership of the gun. The trooper will take the case to the county prosecutor's office for a determination of charges for the gun.

Three injured at tire store fight

STEUBENVILLE - Three people were injured, one seriously, after a fight broke out inside Johnny's Tire Mart around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, City Police reported.

Police reported a vehicle was dropping off tires when a second vehicle pulled up. The occupants of both vehicles began to argue and then entered the shop, police reported.

The men grabbed tools and began to hit each other, an officer reported.

Everyone except one person, who was found on the floor, bleeding from the top of the head, fled before officers arrived at the business. Police were called a short time later to Trinity Medical Center West about two men coming to the hospital with injuries sustained in the fight.

Police reported as many as seven people could have been involved. Detectives are investigating.

Power outage announced

Mon Power has announced electric service for the McKinleyville and Bethany areas will be interrupted from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday while crews repair equipment in the McKinleyville Substation.

The outage will affect about 750 customers, including the two communities and the area east of McKinleyville to the state line and south of Bethany to the Ohio County line, including state Route 67, McAdoo Ridge and Pierce Run roads, Bethany Pike, Bealls Ridge, Camp Run Road, state Route 88 and Lazears Run and Castleman's Run roads.

CCHS entrance test scheduled

STEUBENVILLE - The Catholic Central High School guidance department has announced its pre-registration plans for the 2014-15 school year.

Eighth-grade pupils not attending Bishop John King Mussio Junior High are invited to to take the entrance placement test followed by a tour of the high school.

Students should report to the main lobby in the high school at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday. The day will conclude at approximately 11 a.m. In the event of a snow day or two-hour delay, the test will be given on Jan. 23.
